Pete Morelewicz
Whether operating an antique letterpress or creating an iPad interactive, I'm conversant in most every publishing technology of the last 500 years. My favorite innovation has been Letraset transferrable type, and boy can I set a mean line of copy with it. Regardless of the medium, my goal is the same: create a smart design that communicates clearly.

Here's an abridged work history:
Art Director, Center for American Progress
Designed reports, books, infographics, data visualizations, signage, logos, and anything else a think tank can throw at you.
Deputy Design Director, HanleyWood
Art directed several magazines about home design and remodeling. Designed covers, features, data visualizations; hired and art directed photographers, illustrators, and freelance designers.
Designer, USA Today
Hired to help launch Open Air, a quarterly active lifestyle magazine. Assisted in the initial design conceptualization and helped design the first few issues.
Art Director, Washington City Paper
As the art director of the weekly newspaper, I had the pleasure of designing stories about grave robbers, cops measuring a perp's privates, and the fine art of cat-calling to pretty women on the street.
Art Lackey, Architecture Magazine
Cut my teeth as a designer when people still used terms like "bluelines" and "randoms". Learned how to brew a strong cup of coffee and engage in appropriately bland water cooler chat.
Here's an abridged history of side projects:
Head of Everything, Duckpin Press
Operated a small letterpress shop out of my stinky basement. Hand set lead and wood type to create cards and posters across two presses. There are samples under the "Letterpress" tab above. For more thoughts, visit the cobweb-ridden Duckpin Press blog.
Co-founder, PopSmear Magazine
Launched the irreverent pop culture magazine with my brother and built it from scratch into a full-color bimonthly with an eventual circulation of 50,000. Highlights include getting sued by dozens of celebrities.
Co-founder, Squished Penny Museum
My wife and I curated the only museum in the world celebrating the creation and collection of squished pennies. With my monstrous Popeye arms, those pennies just don't stand a chance. You can hear an interview with us about our adventures in squishing.
